If you're going to be travelling to beautiful Galveston,TX on the Gulf of Mexico, there are two places that you must see:  the Seawolf Park Military Display and the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum.  Both places offer an educational experience along with a sense of adventure that will please everyone in the family.

The Seawolf Park Military Display, housed on an old immigration station, is run by the Cavalla Historical Foundation and features two World War II submarines, the USS Cavalla and the USS Carp,  the World War II Destroyer Escort the USS Stewart, and the conning tower and sail of the USS Tautog, a nuclear submarine.  The USS Stewart, one of only three Destroyer Escorts in the world, is open for tours, meaning that visitors get to have a look inside the ship.   Also making the display interesting for school groups or other youth groups, is the Sleep Aboard program.  The facility is open year-round from dawn to dusk every day.  Group rates are available for parking and the naval display.  There is also a fishing area where a fee is charged.   More information is available from the Cavalla Historical Foundation at (409) 770 - 3196.
